New Beginnings

There have been many new happenings in my life lately, not the least of which is that I am soon to begin my graduate studies in physical therapy. I’m not confident about who might ever happen upon this blog, but this first post is my chance to explain the origins of this blog’s name. In 2012, a member of my immediate family went through a traumatic experience in a hospital. Finally after almost three months, the extended stay at the hospital ended. Somewhere along the way, we picked up the Ralph Waldo Emerson quote: “the first wealth is health.” I couldn’t tell you where exactly I saw it in the multitude of rooms we stayed in, but I do remember that it was plastered along a hospital wall somewhere. The quote stuck with me and in the years since, it has continued to play its part in my life.

This blog will expand upon the topics of health inequity, preventable illness, mismanaged chronic disease, what its like to be a PT student, and, for any prospective DPT students, graduate admissions for physical therapy school (in a past life I worked as an admission counselor). As of now, I don’t have major plans to keep it overly professional. Simply, it will be a place where I can share things about my professional career and opinions.

Thanks for reading!
